The Scientific Director manages, coordinates and fosters IIB Sant Pau research activities and is responsible for executing and enforcing resolutions of the governance bodies in matters within his/her powers.
The Internal Scientific Committee is responsible for fostering and coordinating the scientific activities of the IIB Sant Pau.
In fulfilling its mission, it has the following functions:
To develop and propose the strategic research plan and annual report.
To develop criteria for awarding research grants and subsidies and propose them to the governing bodies
To ensure that research is carried out in compliance with general ethical principles.
The Internal Scientific Committee is composed of the following members:
President: Scientific Director Científic of the IIB Sant Pau.
Vice-President: President of the CEIm of the HSCSP.
Four members nominated by the Director of IIB Sant Pau.
Two members from each IIB Sant Pau Thematic Area.
Two members representing groups associated with the IIB Sant Pau.
The External Scientific Committee is responsible for validating the Internal Scientific Committee members, who ultimately will be appointed by the governing body in the event of any disagreement. The President shall appoint a secretary from among the members.

External Scientific Committee
The governing body of the IIB Sant Pau is responsible for appointing an External Scientific Committee to oversee scientific quality and to advise the Director of the IIB Sant Pau (its secretary) regarding the performance of his/her functions.
The External Scientific Committee must be informed of the content of the proposed strategic research plan prior to its approval by the Executive Committee, of the proposed members of the Internal Scientific Committee and of the content of the annual report. It is responsible for making recommendations regarding policy and management of resources.
The members of the External Scientific Committee are appointed by the governing body for a term of four years, renewable indefinitely for the same period.
The system governing calls, constitution and adoption of resolutions is determined by its internal regulations.
